If you’re interested in US politics, namely, who will be the Democratic Nominee for the 2020 presidential election, then Washington and Lee University’s Mock Convention is the place for you.
What is Mock Con?
It’s “one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious mock conventions” (The Washington Post, 1996). WLU’s simulated presidential nominating convention is held every four years by the students of W&L with the goal of predicting “who the party out of power in the White House will nominate to run for President of the United States.”
How do they do it?
Fifty-seven student state delegations gather data from the latest polls, analyst insights, and on-the-ground contacts. Their meticulous research has made their predictions the most accurate in the country. Since 1908, they’ve held the Mock Convention 26 times and have predicted the right candidate 20 times. And they intend to make that “21 times” in 2020.
This year’s 27th Mock Convention, which takes place February 14-16, 2020, has a fantastic schedule of world-class speakers (three years in the planning) at the opening Politics in Media Panel event on Friday and throughout four sessions on Friday and Saturday, concluding with the announcement of the official prediction of the Democratic Nominee on Sunday at 2:00pm.
Whether you’re political, you just want to know who the Democratic Nominee will be, or you’re looking for a reason to get away, you don’t want to miss this much-anticipated and energizing event. Purchase your Mock Con tickets now and then book your stay at Brierley Hill Bed and Breakfast, located just outside downtown Lexington, VA, and less than 5 minutes from Washington and Lee University.
