The renowned Lime Kiln Theater is situated less than a mile from Brierley Hill’s front doors. The theater has a remarkable history, and as part of the Lexington, VA landscape, it offers often sold-out summer entertainment.
We make the theater part of our summer lifestyle and visit many shows when our schedule allows. We have not been disappointed, and we’re confident you won’t be, either!
Lime Kiln Theater began in 1967 by two Washington and Lee students who had a vision for what was at the time an abandoned quarry and kiln. With much hard work from volunteers, the theater held its first season production in 1984. Today, it is a volunteer-based organization that attracts some of the world’s best performers.
The theater has two stages, “The Bowl,” a 350-seat natural amphitheater with permanent bench seating, and “The Kiln,” a large open space covered by a tent. Last year a retractable cover was installed over The Bowl, allowing for comfortable seating even during rain. As they say, “The show must go on!”
Many of the shows are sold out, so you must purchase a ticket. Be sure to arrive early as well, as bench seating is offered on a first-come, first served basis. But whether you’re sitting on the bench or enjoying the performance from the standing-room area, get ready for an incredible evening!
By now you must be wondering who’s coming to the stage for the 2019 season. That announcement was just made, and Brierley Hill Bed and Breakfast is glad to spread the news! You can see:
May 10 – The Infamous Stringdusters
May 24 – I’m With Her
June 2 – Chris Thile
June 22 – Charley Crockett and Kat Wright
July 20 – Molly Tuttle
August 3 – Steep Canyon Rangers
September 14 – Keller & The Keels
September 28 – The Steel Wheels
There’s nothing quite like surrounding yourself with the lush forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains while enjoying music and theater from some of the best in the industry. Add the exceptional sound and lighting, and you’ll be signing up for season tickets before you know it!
