Looking Back at 2014

If we had to narrow it down to one thing that made 2014 a very special year, without thinking twice I could easily give the answer. Before I divulge that, here is a little review of 2014 at Brierley Hill.
January turned out to be a very cold month at  Brierley Hill and our guest enjoyed the warmth of our fireplace.Valentine package It was  good snuggling weather, which was evident by watching Tucker & Deuce curl up together on the veranda.
Karen and I took advantage of this time to do some painting inside. The Kitchen, some of the hall ways and our Front door received some new color. Mid January would take us to Charleston S.C. for the annual PAII convention ( Professional Association of Innkeepers International). It was cold in South Carolina also.
Winter funFebruary would deliver snow, turning our grounds into a winter wonderland. Tobogganing down the front lawn turned out to be a guest favorite pastime. Along with the festive outdoor activities we pampered our guest in the warm and cozy rooms with Chocolates from the Local chocolatier, Champagne and Roses in celebration of Valentines.Shenandoah valley Lexington Virginia
A few late winter snows would linger into March , but the longer sunny days bought fourth our first spring flowers.

April and May were filled with a multitude of colors at Brierley Hill , with trees and flowers coming into full bloom. With many different fragrances in the air from our trees and flowers blooming, our guest would enjoy sitting on the veranda, while being serenaded by the spring song birds. This is one of our favorite times of the year.IMG_2096
The May College Graduations would lead us into our busy seasons which runs right through October. The beautiful long warm days and the cool nights of June, July, and August, made Brierley Hill the perfect place to stay, while enjoying all the sights of Lexington and the Shenandoah Valley. The months flew by for Karen and I as we enjoyed the coming of new guest and the return of many of our previous ones. Although we stayed busy with our Goshen Passdaily work we managed to enjoy a little R&R ourselves. Tucker and Deuce enjoyed many trips to Goshen pass, to swim and play on the swinging bridge. ( Deuce love to run across
the bridge)
The good weather this past summer allowed for a very good garden IMG_2606, producing many fruits and vegetables for our yummy breakfast. Local fruits made great starters. Baked apples , pears and grilled peaches were some of the favorites.

Lexington Hot Air balloon Festival 2014The annual Hot Air Ballon festival over the forth of July was a highlight for many of our guest as they wathced the balloons drift thought the valley from the veranda.
With August drawing to an end, the college students started to return, and fall would be just around the corner. We would be blessed this year with vibrant colors stretching through out the valley. Our gardens, surrounding the gazebo, were filled with bright reds , whites, pinks and lavenders.IMG_7289 - Version 2
The fall foliage would last well into early November, making it one of the prettiest fall seasons
Guest trafic slowed down in November, allowing Karen and I some time to go  to Pennsylvania  and spend  the Thanksgiving Holiday with our family. After a short break, it was now time to decorate for the Christmas Holiday season. This year we put up two fresh cut Christmas trees. One in the dining room, the other in the formal living room. Along with various other decorations inside and out, we had the inn looking very festive. Christmas in Lexington VirginiaIMG_3430
Our Noel french toast was a Guest IMG_3439 favorite for the Holiday season, served with a peppermint stick and our special bacon. Besides who diets at Christmas! We stayed open during Christmas and provided nice cozy rooms for those who were traveling during the Holiday. Our boys Zach & Blake along with their girl friends were able to come and spend the week end after Christmas at the Inn. A good time was had by all.
The year came to an end with our first wedding at Brierley Hill, on December 30th. Wedding cake

Now about that one thing that made 2014 such a special year
With out a doubt, EVERYONE of our GUEST !!
We wouldn’t be a B&B without you.
